LEAD DESIGNER

Chicken Flick’en is a 3D casual sports game where you launch chickens at various targets in a village. Choose your preferred chicken and compete against the other players on who can get the most destruction (points) with a limited number of flicks. Winner of the MSU Game Dev Showcase "Best of Show" for 2017!

I served as lead designer on this project, designing mechanics, levels, and managing the project.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Level Design

Chicken Flick'en has 3 levels, each level adding a new mechanic to account for. The first level is a good tutorial to get a feel for the mechanics, the second adds constant wind with hot air balloons & chicken coops to avoid, and the last adds changing wind every toss. Each level also changes aesthetically, with the first being on solid ground at daytime, and the last on small islands at sunset. I did this to make it feel like you are progressing through the game.

Flick Mechanic

The flick is the gameplay, and was really important to get feeling good. It started off feeling decent, but through playtest feedback we added the line renderer that shows the arc your last shot went, and the small movements the chicken makes before you release. These added a lot to the feel, and made it easier for players to be able to pick up, flick, and hit targets.
